Connley Walker Pty Ltd was engaged to undertake a security risk assessment for Baralaba Coal, a key player in the Australian mining and resources sector. The purpose of this engagement was to evaluate the site’s security posture in alignment with industry best practice, compliance obligations, and operational needs specific to critical infrastructure environments.
The assessment involved a detailed site inspection of the Baralaba Coal facility, with Connley Walker Pty Ltd reviewing access points, operational areas, existing security infrastructure, and site layout. This inspection was designed to assess the physical environment and ensure that any future planning or upgrades would be informed by a professional and structured evaluation of site-specific requirements.
In addition to the site inspection, Connley Walker Pty Ltd conducted stakeholder consultations with personnel responsible for site management, operations, and health and safety. These discussions provided operational context and supported the development of a comprehensive understanding of routine site activity, shift patterns, visitor access requirements, and current security management practices.
The security risk assessment was carried out using a structured methodology consistent with the AS/NZS ISO 31000:2018 risk management standard. This approach allowed for a systematic examination of the organisation’s exposure to security threats and supported the identification of opportunities to strengthen site resilience and ensure the protection of personnel, assets, and operational continuity.
As part of the engagement, Connley Walker Pty Ltd also incorporated a Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) assessment. The CPTED component evaluated how environmental and architectural elements influenced natural surveillance, access control, and territorial reinforcement across the site. This integrated approach ensured that both physical and environmental security considerations were addressed in line with industry expectations.
Connley Walker Pty Ltd prepared a formal report detailing the methodology and scope of the assessment. The report was designed to support internal planning, guide the implementation of future security measures, and demonstrate a professional commitment to best practice in the protection of critical infrastructure.
