The audit involved a full review of hard security controls, including perimeter fencing, access control infrastructure, CCTV coverage, and secure entry points. Attention was given to both individual tenancies and shared-use spaces, as well as critical infrastructure zones such as plant and equipment storage areas.

In parallel, soft controls were reviewed to assess the effectiveness of access policies, contractor management procedures, emergency response plans, and administrative responsibilities related to security governance. Connley Walker Pty Ltd examined how existing procedures were implemented across the facility and their alignment with operational security requirements.

A key component of the engagement included a lighting assessment in accordance with AS/NZS 1158.3.1:2020. This involved evaluating lighting coverage and performance across walkways, car parks, building entry points, and open circulation areas to ensure safety, visibility, and compliance with lighting standards for pedestrian environments.

The security risk assessment was carried out using a structured methodology aligned with AS/NZS ISO 31000:2018, which supported the identification of risks specific to the Construction Training Centre’s layout, usage patterns, and multi-occupant environment. Risk treatment options were developed with a focus on practicality, scalability, and minimal disruption to daily operations.

Connley Walker Pty Ltd conducted a comprehensive site inspection to observe existing security conditions in practice and to validate infrastructure against procedural controls. Areas of focus included access control for staff, students, and visitors, surveillance blind spots, shared amenities, and high-traffic operational zones.

Stakeholder consultations were also undertaken with management representatives and facility stakeholders to understand site operations, usage patterns, and security concerns. These discussions ensured the assessment process captured both technical and contextual factors relevant to the facility’s performance and obligations.

A formal report was delivered outlining the full scope of the audit and risk assessment, including site observations, stakeholder feedback, and professional recommendations. The report was designed to guide future planning, investment in infrastructure, and the refinement of security management practices at the Construction Training Centre.
