The audit involved a systematic review of hard controls, including perimeter security, electronic access control systems, surveillance infrastructure, physical barriers, and intrusion detection capabilities across both public-facing and restricted areas of the site. In parallel, Connley Walker Pty Ltd reviewed soft controls, such as access management procedures, staff responsibilities, visitor control processes, emergency protocols, and the overarching security governance framework.

A structured security risk assessment was undertaken in accordance with AS/NZS ISO 31000:2018, ensuring the assessment was aligned with contemporary risk management standards. The risk assessment focused on identifying site-specific threats and security considerations relevant to Scienceworks’ operations as an interactive and high-volume visitor facility.

Connley Walker Pty Ltd conducted a detailed site inspection to assess the effectiveness of security controls in place and observe operational activity across the facility. The inspection included both front-of-house and back-of-house zones, technical support areas, event spaces, and high-value collection storage.

The engagement also involved stakeholder consultation with staff and management responsible for day-to-day operations and strategic oversight. These discussions provided important operational context and ensured that the assessment accurately reflected the practical realities of the site’s usage, risk exposure, and visitor service obligations.

Following completion of the audit and risk assessment, Connley Walker Pty Ltd prepared a formal report outlining the engagement methodology, scope of work, and professional recommendations. The report was developed to support ongoing security planning, guide implementation of improvements, and assist with strategic decision-making to maintain a secure and accessible environment for staff, visitors, and collections.
